BOTANY – NO LONGER AN ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT
AT UTK
Effective 1 January 2005 the Department of Botany was discontinued as an
academic unit. Faculty and Staff have been reassigned variously to the
Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, the Department of Biochemistry,
Cellular and Molecular Biology, or the Division of Biology. Plant Biology will continue to be well represented
at the University of Tennessee.
Most former Botany courses will continue to be
taught, but under another academic unit (and in some cases under a
different course number). See listing of undergraduate courses below.
There is still a Plant Biology track as an
option for an undergraduate Biology degree. Contact the Division of
Biology for details.
The Teaching and Research Gardens are in the
process of being moved to a new location (behind the Earth & Planetary
Sciences Building) in connection with renovations to the Hill area.
Students wishing to undertake graduate study
with former Botany faculty members should make contact with them, and will have to apply to the appropriate department.
